How do I save money on petrol?

The price of fuel is rising and with this being the case it is now more important than ever that you pay particular attention to the amount of fuel that you use.
Here are our top tips on saving fuel:

TYRES

Check your tyre pressures regularly. If your tyres are under inflated you will use more fuel.

The heavier your vehicle the more fuel you will use. It is therefore important that you remove anything from your vehicle that does not need to be there.

RAPID ACCELERATION

Avoid rapid acceleration and heavy braking as this will use a significant amount of fuel.

GEAR CHANGES

Change up a gear at lower revs – 2,500rpm in a petrol engine and 2,000rpm in a diesel.

AIR CONDITIONING

Air conditioning uses up fuel, if you do not need it on turn it off.

TURN IT OFF

Don’t let your engine run idle, if you are not driving turn the engine off.

SLOW DOWN

The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.

CONVERT TO GAS

Converting your vehicle to LPG would reduce your fuel costs by up to 50%!

COMPARE FUEL PRICES

Instead of simply using your usual or local petrol station, shop around. A good site to use for this is www.petrolprices.com.
